CONFERENCE about the Great Siege

With the exhibition at the Grand Master’s Palace open until the 6th of December, Heritage Malta will be holding the penultimate of the series of events in commemoration of the Great Siege of 1565. This final major event will be an international conference which will be held between the 29th and 30th of October at Fort St. Angelo.

DSC_8526The conference will be championing new academic research which will be published for the first time and will feature leading scholars from England, Rome, Turkey and Malta who will be presenting the Siege and its effects on Maltese and Mediterranean Society.

The keynote speech will be made by retired Admiral of the Ottoman fleet Muzaffer Metin Atac whilst scholars Giovanni Bonello and Karen Watts will be discussing “Discovered and lost sources for the history of the Great Siege” and “The significance of the etching on the armours worn by the Knights of St. John at the Great Siege of Malta” respectively.

In all the conference will feature 21 speakers and will be inaugurated by the Minister for Culture Dr Owen Bonnici. Collaborations between the Royal Armouries of Leeds and the Palace Armoury in Valletta will also be made known to the public for the very first time.

Participation fee of €20 includes coffee breaks and lunch.
