Half-day SEMINAR – ‘Fragments and their Contexts’

Fragments and their Contexts is a half day seminar being organised by Heritage Malta on Saturday 14 October at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. This seminar will focus on a very particular facet of cultural heritage which is less obvious and even less visible than others, but which is inherent to any endaevour to interpret and present cultural heritage in a meaningful way.

The seminar will be divided in two sessions. The initial session will feature three joint papers by six Heritage Malta professionals, who will guide the audience through a journey of incompleteness in art, archaeology and architecture, and how we interpret and understand it.

This will be followed by a second session in which a number of esteemed professionals will give short presentations and will address the theme of ‘fragments’ from their experience and their point of view.

The list of speakers includes Prof. JoAnn Cassar, paintings’ conservators David Frank Bugeja and Anthony Spagnol, archaeologists David Cardona and Sharon Sultana, art historian Sandro Debono, architect Veronica Bonello, philosopher Prof. Joe Friggieri, conservation architects Konrad Buhagiar and Dr Shirley Cefai, and historian Dr Joan Abela.

Participation is free of charge. Interested participants are kindly requested to register by sending an email to info@heritagemalta.org. The seminar starts at 8.30am.
