Heritage Malta launches a new historical fiction book and an audio book

‘Il-Misteru ta’ taħt is-Siġra tal-Ħarrub’ is a new book in Maltese launched by Heritage Malta. It will satisfy those thirsty for adventure and archaeological knowledge, rolled into one. An audio book version of the recently published, ‘Valletta – my city, my story’ has also been launched.

The launching was made this morning at St. Paul’s Catacombs by Heritage Malta Chief Operations Officer, Mr Kenneth Gambin, accompanied by Mr Godwin Vella, Manager Publications and Education at Heritage Malta. The National Literacy Agency CEO Mr David Muscat and Malta Libraries Deputy Librarian Mrs Margaret Zammit and Library Assistant Talking Book Section Malta Libraries, Mr Leone Sciberras, were also in attendance.

Written by Mr David Azzopardi, ‘Il-Misteru ta’ taħt is-Siġra tal-Ħarrub’ follows the adventure of a group of teenagers as they discover a complex of catacombs. In between exploring the discovery of the latter, uncovering a hive of antiquity and works of art smugglers and dispelling a robbery, there is enough fast paced adventure in this book to leave any reader glued to its pages. The illustrations, by Dean Fenech, evoke the 70s era perfectly and provide visual aid to the text.

An audio book version of the recently published ‘Valletta – my city, my story’, has also been launched. Read by well known actor Alan Parnis, this audio book was produced with the primary aim of making the book accessible to those with visual impairments and, also, to be used as an aid during the teaching of English language in schools. ‘Valletta – my city, my story’ narrates the early years of Valletta, and its inhabitants, which are brought back to life as the reader wanders through the beautiful streets, buildings, squares and ruins that dot the city; stories that will make you proud of your heritage. The narration is done by none other than Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette.

Both titles are endorsed by the National Literacy Agency.

During the launch Mr Gambin presented copies of the ‘Valletta – my city, my story’ audiobook to the Audiobooks Unit within Malta Libraries.

A representative number of students and teachers from St. Paul’s Missionary College were in attendance.

Heritage Malta’s publications can be purchased from the respective museum shops run by the Agency and from leading bookstores in Malta and Gozo. For further enquiries contact education@heritagemalta.org
