Maltese naturalists highlighted during Heritage Malta’s second Cultural Heritage monthly lectures

Heritage Malta’s senior curator of natural history, John J. Borg, will address the second monthly cultural lecture organised by the national agency, focusing on Maltese naturalists from the 16th to the early 20th century.

The lecture, entitled ‘From Abela to Zammit – A biographic overview of the Maltese naturalists from the 16th to the early 20th Century, will highlight the lives and works of Maltese well known as well as lesser known naturalists.

The aim of these lectures is to make our heritage more accessible to the general public. Lectures are delivered by professionals in the field, including Heritage Malta officials, and will focus on various aspects of our heritage, including archaeology, conservation, history, natural history, photography, maritime and other.

John J. Borg joined the Museums Department in 1992, rising to the post of Senior Curator of Natural History. He is responsible for the National Museum of Natural History, Għar Dalam cave and Museum, and a number of research projects with local and foreign institutions on various topics including ornithology, entomology, palaeontology and zooarchaeology. He is also interested in the historical aspects of natural history, especially 19th and early 20th century Maltese naturalists.

The second lecture will be held on Saturday 28th April at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta and starts at 10.00hrs (till 12.00hrs).
