Reduced combined admission fee for Heritage Malta museums during Birgufest

Heritage Malta will be opening the Inquisitor’s Palace, the Malta Maritime Museum and Fort St. Angelo during Birgufest. A combined admission fee of €2 will be offered during this weekend. Children under 12 years of age enter for free.

dsc_3465The Inquisitor’s Palace and the Malta Maritime Museum will open till late, on Friday and Saturday, from 8.30hrs till midnight (last admission at 23.30hrs). On Sunday, these two museums will open as per normal opening hours, from 9.00hrs till 17.00hrs (last admission at 16.30hrs).

Fort St Angelo will open on Saturday 8th October only, from 18.00hrs till midnight (last admission at 23.30hrs).

Various activities will be held throughout the weekend. On Friday evening, the Malta Maritime Museum will be teaming up with the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta (HRGM) to organise a period event. The theme chosen for the display is that of the Blockade period 1798-1800 and will depict the French occupation side of the Blockade, Birgu being under French occupation malta-maritime-museum-2throughout the two year blockade.

To this effect the HRGM will portray period characters depicting French soldiers of the 19eme demi-brigade who were actually posted in Malta during those two years, French sailors and a group of high society male and female civilians who will performing period dances.

On the day, visitors will be taken back in time and visually experience life in the 18th century through the display which will include guard duties, garrison life and tavern type setup complete with the singing of period soldier’s songs, moreover a group of male and female members in the 18th century high society civilian attire will be putting on dances typical of the period.
