This weekend, during the Malta Comic Con, Minister Hon Dr Owen Bonnici launched the new compelling art book “Impressions of An Island – A Malta Comic Con Art book”. This book which saw the collaboration of Heritage Malta and Wicked Comics commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Malta Comic Convention.
The compilation of various artworks coming from both local and foreign artists is a new landmark which connects the world of mythical heroes and legendary creatures with renowned Maltese cultural heritage sites and places.
The vivid and colourful illustrations contribute to a fantastic new venture which portrays an innovative perspective of how to create modern mementos of a nation’s heritage. Many of the artists were inspired by the rich local anecdotes of myths and legends, by the presence of monumental archaeological and historical sites, and by the local narratives of epic battles and brave heroes.
Deemed as a celebration of Maltese culture, local heritage, as well as Pop culture, the book is ideal for all the Malta Comic Con fans and art enthusiasts. The wealth of talent and creativity leaps out of the bizarre illustrations with each turned page. Dragons and monsters lure within prehistoric temples, the tentacles of a huge octopus threaten the high bastions of Fort St Angelo, an underwater mythical creature makes contact with a girl on a boat in the port, handsome and robust knights defend the islands, and popular heroes whizz across the UNESCO listed Valletta skyline.
“Impressions of An Island – A Malta Comic Con Art book” is available for sale at all Heritage Malta museums and sites. Between 7 – 11 November 2018, this book will also be available from Heritage Malta’s stand in the Malta Book Festival at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.
