On the 20th of November the international community will be celebrating World Children’s Day. To commemorate this occasion, Heritage Malta has teamed up with the Scout Association of Malta for an event that will be held at Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park on Saturday the 17th of November.
During the day, Cub Scouts, aged between 7 and 11 years, from Santa Venera, Attard and Mtarfa Scout Groups will be giving visitors a tour of these archaeological sites, with a unique twist. The Cubs will form a series of ‘information hotspots’ where they will describe the site and its history to visitors. By so doing, these children will in turn learn more about the archaeological park themselves. Heritage Malta encourages such initiatives as they provide an opportunity for the younger generation to learn and appreciate further Malta’s rich cultural heritage.
Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park’s visitor centre also includes a children’s interactive area where children can learn how these temples were probably built and the relationship between the geographical orientation of the temples and the celestial bodies.
Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park is open daily from 09.00hrs till 17.00hrs. Entrance to these sites on Saturday 17th November shall be at the normal daily admission fee.
